Turkey Migros: Bringing AI Grab & Go Convenience into the Corporate Workplace

Customer Requirements

For modern retailers, innovation is no longer limited to the sales floor. It also begins inside the workplace.

At Migros headquarters in Turkey, employees need convenient access to snacks, drinks, light meals, and daily essentials throughout the workday. However, traditional staff canteens, vending machines, and small convenience counters often come with familiar limitations: limited product variety, manual payment, restricted service hours, and slow checkout during peak breaks.

For a leading retail brand like Migros, the goal was not simply to create another snack corner. The project needed to become a practical test of a smarter retail model, one that could improve workplace convenience while also exploring the future of automated store operations.

Migros needed a solution that could address several key challenges:

  1. Workplace convenience
Employees need quick access to food and drinks during short breaks, without leaving the office building or waiting in line.
  2. Limited space
Corporate environments require compact, clean, and efficient store formats that can fit naturally into shared office areas.
  3. Low-friction shopping
The shopping process should be faster than a traditional checkout counter and more flexible than a vending machine.
  4. Operational efficiency
The store should reduce manual cashier work while supporting product display, inventory management, and backend data tracking.
  5. Retail innovation testing
As a major retail player, Migros also needed a real-world environment to test how AI-powered unmanned retail could work in office, campus, and high-frequency commercial scenarios.

To meet these needs, Migros worked with Cloudpick to launch an AI-powered unmanned convenience store inside its headquarters.

Cloudpick provided Migros with a complete AI Grab & Go store solution designed for the corporate workplace.

The store uses AI vision, smart sensing, access control, and automated checkout to create a simple shopping journey. Employees enter the store, pick up the items they want, and leave naturally. There is no need to scan barcodes one by one, wait for a cashier, or complete a traditional checkout process.

The shopping flow is designed to be intuitive:

Enter through access control
Users enter the unmanned store through a controlled entrance, creating a secure and trackable shopping environment.

Pick products directly from the shelves
Snacks, beverages, packaged food, and daily essentials are displayed on open shelves, giving customers more freedom than traditional vending machines.

Leave without manual checkout
After selecting products, customers simply exit the store.

AI recognition and automatic settlement
Cloudpick’s system automatically identifies the items taken, generates the order, and updates transaction and inventory data in the backend.

Compared with traditional vending machines, the store offers a more open and natural shopping experience. Customers can browse freely, compare products, and choose from a wider product range. Compared with a staffed convenience counter, it reduces repetitive cashier work and supports longer service hours with lower operational pressure.

The store design also fits the workplace environment. With a compact layout, clear entry gate, organized shelves, and modern lighting, the Migros project turns an office retail corner into a small but intelligent convenience destination.

For Migros, this is not only an employee service upgrade. It is also a live retail innovation lab.

The Migros AI unmanned store demonstrates how Grab & Go technology can bring new value to corporate workplace retail.

For employees, the experience is simple and immediate. They can buy drinks, snacks, and daily essentials during short breaks without leaving the building or waiting in line. The store becomes part of the natural rhythm of office life: quick, convenient, and always close at hand.

For operators, the value is more strategic:

  1. Improved employee convenience
The store provides an easy-access retail service inside the workplace, helping employees save time during the day.
  2. Higher space efficiency
A compact unmanned store can be deployed in office buildings, headquarters, business parks, and shared workplace areas without requiring a large retail footprint.
  3. Lower labor dependency
Automated checkout reduces the need for full-time cashier operation, while staff can focus more on restocking, product planning, and service optimization.
  4. Better product flexibility
Open shelves allow a wider range of products than conventional vending machines, including snacks, drinks, packaged food, and other high-frequency daily items.
  5. Real-time operational data
The system can record product movement and transaction data, helping operators understand demand patterns and improve product selection.
  6. A scalable retail model
The same solution can be extended to offices, campuses, residential communities, transport hubs, gyms, hospitals, and other semi-closed high-frequency scenarios.

Most importantly, the project shows that unmanned retail is not just a futuristic concept. It can be a practical tool for retailers who want to test new formats, serve customers more efficiently, and build a smarter retail infrastructure.

By working with Cloudpick, Migros has created a compact AI-powered store that combines convenience, automation, and digital operation in one workplace scenario. It reflects a broader shift in retail: stores are becoming smaller, smarter, and closer to where people actually live, work, and move.
