Sarawak continues strengthening its smart-city and digital-economy agenda with the launch of Tap & Go Mart, Malaysia’s first AI-powered cashierless store — developed by Sarawak Digital Economy Corporation Berhad (SDEC) and powered by Cloudpick’s AI retail technology.
SDEC Chairman, Tan Sri Datuk Amar Mohamad Morshidi Abdul Ghani, said the introduction of Cloudpick’s AI system and digital payment solutions in the retail sector reflects Sarawak’s commitment to building a sustainable digital ecosystem, improving public convenience while boosting business efficiency.
“This initiative is part of Sarawak’s digital-economy agenda. We began with Sarawak Pay and the digital parking system. Today, we expand with Smart Marketing and Tap & Go Smart as another effort to make life easier for the people.
“There are many more digital-economy programs being carried out by SDEC with strategic partners for the benefit of all,” he said at the launch of Sarawak’s First AI Unmanned Mart.
He added that the innovation aligns with the Post-COVID-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030, which pushes the state toward a cashless, AI-driven future.
Located in Baitulmakmur II, the autonomous store operates 24/7 without staff. Customers simply scan a QR code through the SBOX AI app to enter, pick items, and walk out.
Payments are processed automatically via the SBOX AI Digital Wallet, while the in-store system — powered by Cloudpick’s AI cameras, smart-shelf sensors, IoT devices, and machine-learning algorithms — identifies every item taken by customers with high precision.
