TAP & GO Mart – Malaysia’s First Fully Commercialised AI‑Powered Unmanned Store with Cloudpick
Customer Requirements

Sarawak Digital Economy Corporation Berhad (SDEC) is driving the region’s digital transformation under the Sarawak Digital Economy Blueprint 2030 and the Post COVID‑19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030. The goal is to accelerate Sarawak’s shift towards a cashless, data‑driven, and AI‑enabled economy.
Traditional retail models face limitations – fixed hours, manpower costs, and lack of integration with digital payment systems. SDEC needed a fully automated, commercially viable retail solution that could operate 24/7, serve busy government employees, and align with the state’s digital vision.
Cloudpick Solution

Cloudpick provided its AI‑powered unmanned store solution, integrating AI cameras, smart‑shelf sensors, Internet of Things (IoT) systems, and machine learning algorithms. The store, named TAP & GO Mart, is located at Baitulmakmur Building II in Kuching, Sarawak.
Key features:
Automatic checkout: The system identifies products taken or returned and automatically charges customers upon exit – no scanning, no cashier, no queue.
24/7 operation: The mart runs round the clock, serving employees working at the government building any time of day or night.
Seamless digital payment: TAP & GO Mart uses SDEC’s SBOX AI Wallet, available on the Apple App Store and Google Play Store. New users receive a free RM20 voucher upon registration.
Strategic location: Positioned in a major government building, the store is expected to benefit over 2,000 employees working at Baitulmakmur Building II.
Result

On November 12, 2025, SDEC officially launched TAP & GO Mart – Malaysia’s first fully commercialised unmanned mart. The launch marks a major milestone in Sarawak’s digital economy journey.
Measured outcomes:
Convenience for employees: Government staff can now grab daily essentials, snacks, and beverages without waiting in line or carrying cash – ideal for busy work schedules.
Support for digital economy goals: The mart demonstrates how AI and IoT can be deployed in real‑world retail, paving the way for broader adoption.
Plans for expansion: SDEC chairman Tan Sri Datuk Amar Morshidi Abdul Ghani expressed plans to expand and branch out the mart in the near future.
Customer Testimonial
Tan Sri Datuk Amar Morshidi Abdul Ghani, Chairman of SDEC, said:
“This is an effort to advance the digital economy. We have S Pay Global, online parking coupons, and now a smart mart as well. We thank the Sarawak State Mosque Welfare Trust Board (LAKMNS) for facilitating the first launch, which we hope will benefit over 2,000 employees here. We plan to expand and branch out the mart in the near future.”
