Spain Grupo Moure: Building a 24/7 AI Smart Store for Fuel Stations and Mobility Retail
Customer Requirements

Fuel stations are changing.
They are no longer only places for refueling. As mobility habits evolve, fuel stations, service areas, EV charging hubs, and roadside commercial spaces are becoming everyday convenience points for drivers, commuters, travelers, and nearby communities.
For Grupo Moure in Spain, the opportunity was clear: create a smarter retail format that could serve customers beyond traditional store hours, reduce operational pressure, and bring a more modern convenience experience to mobility scenarios.
However, roadside and fuel station retail also faces several challenges:
- Demand happens around the clock
Drivers and travelers may need drinks, snacks, coffee, personal care products, or emergency essentials early in the morning, late at night, or outside staffed store hours. - Staffing can be costly and difficult
Maintaining full-time cashier service for every location, especially during low-traffic hours, increases labor pressure. - Space needs to be flexible
Not every fuel station or roadside location has enough room for a full-size convenience store. A compact, modular format is easier to deploy. - Customers expect faster service
In mobility scenarios, customers usually want to stop, buy, and continue their journey quickly. - Retail needs better digital operation
Operators need real-time visibility into product movement, sales performance, inventory changes, and replenishment needs.
To address these needs, Grupo Moure worked with Cloudpick to explore a modular AI smart store model for Spain’s mobility retail environment.
Cloudpick Solution

Cloudpick provided the AI-powered unmanned retail technology behind the smart store, combining computer vision, smart sensing, access control, automated checkout, and backend data management.
The store is designed around a simple Grab & Go journey:
Enter
Customers access the store through a digital entry process using a card or mobile phone.
Pick
Customers freely select products from open shelves, including drinks, snacks, packaged food, personal care items, car-related products, and daily essentials.
Leave
After picking the products they need, customers simply exit the store.
Automatic recognition and settlement
Cloudpick’s AI system identifies the selected items, generates the order, and updates transaction and inventory data automatically.
The project also adopts a containerized smart-store format. This makes the store easier to deploy in outdoor and semi-outdoor locations, including fuel stations, service areas, airports, event venues, business parks, and other high-traffic sites.
Compared with vending machines, the store offers a much wider product range and a more natural shopping experience. Compared with a traditional convenience store, it reduces cashier dependency and supports 24/7 operation with lighter staffing requirements.
The store also works as a visible innovation showcase. With Grupo Moure’s retail scenario, Huawei Cloud support, and Cloudpick’s AI unmanned store technology, the project demonstrates how intelligent infrastructure can be applied to real commercial spaces, not just concept presentations.
Result
The Grupo Moure smart store shows how AI unmanned retail can upgrade convenience services in fuel stations and mobility spaces.
For customers, the value is immediate. They can quickly enter, pick what they need, and leave without waiting for a cashier. Whether it is a late-night drink, a snack during a road trip, a personal care item, or a travel essential, the store provides fast access at the right moment.
For operators, the benefits are more strategic:
- 24/7 service capability
The store can serve customers beyond traditional staffed hours, improving availability across the day and night. - Lower labor dependency
AI recognition and automated checkout reduce repetitive cashier work and make store operation lighter. - Flexible site deployment
The modular store can be placed in fuel stations, EV charging hubs, service areas, airports, events, and other mobility-related scenarios. - Wider product capacity
Open shelves allow more categories than traditional vending machines, supporting drinks, snacks, packaged food, daily essentials, and car-related products. - Real-time retail data
Product movement, sales, and inventory changes can be recorded automatically, helping operators improve replenishment and category planning. - Scalable smart retail model
The same model can be replicated across multiple locations, turning small roadside spaces into intelligent 24/7 convenience points.
Most importantly, the project proves that unmanned retail is not limited to shopping malls or office buildings. It can become part of the mobility infrastructure itself.
As fuel stations and roadside spaces evolve into service hubs, AI smart stores can help operators provide more value with less friction. Grupo Moure’s project offers a practical example of how convenience retail can become smaller, smarter, and closer to customers on the move.
